1st paragraph=Introduction
- Introduce the two ways in which we communicate with each other (spoken conversation and text messaging). Include how they are different for one and other.
- Include that we use many different devices (features) in these ways of communication and why this is.
- Say whether you agree with the argument or not.
- Explain what your objective is within the piece of writing and what you will be looking at.
- Remember to remind the reader about the question asked.
2nd paragraph=Spoken conversation:
- More in depth into what having a conversation actually is.
- The three distinctive features from my transcript I want to describe are:
- Filler- Items of speech that allow you time to think, create a pause or to even keep the sentence flowing. It can also becomes humourous by the repetition of the devices. Examples of a filler ‘urmm’ and ‘hmm’.
- Rising terminal inflection-Is when people raise the tone of their voices on the last syllables of a sentences. This is normally used when asking a question. This can be used to suggest its an important part of the sentence, to check if the person is still engaged and is used when the listenor is confused about a certain subject.
- Ellipsis-An ellipsis is when parts of a sentences is missed out. It is still understandable, but it is an informal way of speaking.
- For each feature (device) explain:
- What they are.
- Why they are used.
- Give an example from the transcripts.
- Refer back to the question and explain how the devices are creative.
3rd paragraph=Text messaging
- More in depth what text messaging someone is.
- Include that text messaging is a type of communication which is used to transfer information quickly.
- The three distinctive features from my Text conversation I want to describe are:
- Abbrievation-An abbrievation is a shortened form of the word or phase. examples of this are ‘lol=laugh out loud’ ‘wuu2?=what you up to?’ ‘wbu?=what about you?
- Emoticons-An emoticon is a pictorial representation of a facial expression using punctuation marks and letters
- Punctuation-Is a symbol that indicates the structure of a sentence.
- For each feature (device) explain:
- What they are.
- Why they are used.
- Give an example from the text conversation.
- Refer back to the question and explain how the devices are creative.
4th paragraph=Explain how text messaging and speaking has influenced eachother:
- Explain how spoken language has influenced text messaging. Use the example emoticons.
- Explain how text messanging has influenced spoken language. Use the example abbrievations.
- Explain how this is creative.
5th paragraph=What these features (devices) can tell us:
- Include that abbrievations are used more by the younger generation because text messaging is a fairly new way of communication.
- Include how some slang words are an informal way of speaking. Also include that certain slang words are only used in certain social groups. Make a comparison.
6th paragraph=Conclusion
- Conclude that speaking and texting are creative.
- Link back to previous ideas and the question.
- Develop an idea of where this could lead (the future).

This is the plan of a very organised mind! I salute you for that. It looks good, but I’d encourage you to develop the following into it:
1) The questions discusses creativity, so it’s very important that every paragraph is adding to an argument about the creativity of these forms of language. I think it’s likely that you’re going to argue that these language forms are creative, and if so, then a strong premise for this can be that they creatively SOLVE PROBLEMS of communication – or creatively ADD NUANCE to communication. This means that you are explaining each of the devices you have chosen in the light of how they are the result of creative responses to language challenges.
2) I would also encourage you to explore a wider range of language devices if you have the time to do so.
3) An “A” level response will also go into aspects of speech like when you are being sarcastic it is often the prosody or paralinguistic features that give it away (i.e. the message is communicated in the tone of voice rather than in the words themselves, which may even be saying the opposite).
– I liked your reference to humour because if there’s humour, there’s definitely creative use of language.

Ok, I will try add this to my plan, would there be a time some point tomorrow maybe I could come speak to you in person and select the best devices which will get be the best grade possible being as that is what I want to achive?

When you work as hard as you do, it is reasonable for you to set your sights on the top A* grades. If you don’t achieve that this time, you will certainly have a lot of information that we can use to assist you to get closer to it next time.
My method of teaching is about constant improvement. I don’t see any reason to set limits on what it is possible for a student to achieve, so you can feel comfortable that I will keep giving you advice until I have nothing left to offer, regardless of the grade some machine might have predicted.
In terms of good examples. I am not able to select these for you as it would constitute too much assistance, but I’m very happy to give you feedback on anything you do select.
What I said today about rest is also important. You are wise to arrive to your assessments mentally rested. I’m glad you’re going to a wedding in the weekend as you are well-prepared and this time out will be healthy.

I have regained confindence within my ideas and plan again since this morning. I will also make sure I have a rest before the essay aswell. Thanks a lot 🙂
