Controlled Assessment: Spoken Language Study

This essay demonstrates a confident and developing ability to analyse language and to put the analysis into a wider context. You have organised your ideas with clarity and supported your points with amble reference to detail. Your explanation of how the linguistic features are creative is developed thoroughly throughout the piece and you also show a high level of personal engagement in the study through the use of evidence you gathered yourself, and through extensive reference to your own perspective.

To develop your work further you may wish to:

  • Improve some of the structural choices about what information you introduce when in your essays, in order to develop an idea more. It is generally advisable to leave your more subtle or complex ideas to the latter parts of an essay
  • Expand the analysis of the effect of the language you are exploring – and in doing so perhaps reduce the granular that you explain the devices themselves. For example, within this limited word limit, rising terminal inflection and emoticons might have been able to be explored without having to be defined.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the devices you’re discussing – especially when you’re comparing two language types.
  • Dedicate the most time and detail to your more advanced conclusions. You left it until the last paragraph to discuss the ways that language can indicate people’s age, relationship, formality etc. This essay would have been perfected by the same attention to detail at this stage as you demonstrated in earlier paragraphs.
